LITTLETON November 25, 2014 -- Southglenn Massage has been selected for the 2014 Best of Littleton Award in the Sports Massage Therapist category by the Littleton Award Program.

Each year, the Littleton Award Program identifies companies that we believe have achieved exceptional marketing success in their local community and business category. These exceptional companies help make the Littleton area a great place to live, work and play.

Various sources of information were gathered and analyzed to choose the winners in each category. The 2014 Littleton Award Program focuses on quality, not quantity. Winners are determined based on the information gathered both internally by the Littleton Award Program and data provided by third parties.

Eat for Less Stress!

Situations, environment, deadlines, peers... all add stress to our lives... and yes, even FOOD can add stress in the body!!
The impact of stress takes a negative toll on the body if we don't do something to change it...

Try reducing or eliminating these five foods to positively affect your body and reduce stress:

1. Sugar - By eliminating foods with added sugars—like pastries, flavored yogurt, and soda—and eating more whole foods, you’ll keep your blood sugar stable, which means fewer mood swings, reduced stress, and a happier body.
2. Artificial Sweeteners - These artificial sweeteners can lead to health problems like headaches, metabolic disease, and cardiovascular disease. But they can also result in an addiction to sugary foods by retraining your taste buds, causing you to seek out even more sweet (and largely unhealthy) foods.
3. Processed Carbohydrates - aside from making you extra thirsty, the extra sodium in the found in these foods causes your body to retain more fluid, which then forces your heart to work harder to keep the blood pumping. It can also increase blood pressure, making you feel bloated and generally unwell, which can certainly increase your stress levels.
4. Alcohol - drinking alcohol can increase the production of hormones that will leave you feeling anxious and more stressed than before you began imbibing. It can also increase blood pressure and heart rate and trigger those same stress-like symptoms within the body.
5. Excess Caffeine - Too much caffeine can spell trouble for your adrenal glands by overstimulating the body. And because it stimulates the nervous system, caffeine can cause a rise in blood pressure and heart rate that will ultimately increase feelings of anxiety.

Test it out for yourself!  All you've got to lose is some added stress :0)

1/2 cup fresh green peas (shelled)
3 avocados, pitted and peeled
1 tomato, chopped
1/2 diced red onion
2 serrano or jalapeño peppers, chopped
2 cloves garlic, peeled and chopped
1/4 cup cilantro, finely chopped
Juice of 2 limes
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1/4 teaspoon sea salt

Directions:

1. In a blender or food processor, purée peas.
2. Combine the peas, lime juice, spices and avocado in the blender or food processor and blend until smooth.
3. Add red onion, serrano peppers, tomato and cilantro and blend together.
4. Remove from the mixer and put in a bowl to chill in the fridge. Serve cold, and enjoy with baby carrots, celery and broccoli. And OK, maybe some (organic) corn chips. (Choose organic chips if you want to avoid GMO corn – 88 percent of the corn grown in the U.S. is GMO.
